West Bromwich Albion Defender Will Retire Due to Long-Term Knee Injury

Neil ClementWest Bromwich Albion defender Neil Clement is confirmed to be retiring from playing because of long-term knee injury. He got the said injury in pre-season 17 months ago but at this point is still suffering from it. He went through two operations to finally get over it but then the result of these operations is something not really good. He failed to overcome it.

As expected, Clement is not happy about his early retirement. He is still a young adult, only in his early 30’s, that could have been given more chances to become better, to achieve more.

“Nothing can prepare you for it. Being told your career is over is the one thing no player wants to hear. However, I can take real comfort from the fact I have tried absolutely everything to get back playing”, Clement said.

Yes, nothing could have prepared him for it. But with his wit, he will be good in time.

The left-back player missed most of the 2007/08 season because of knee injury, but then it is worth mentioning that he indeed managed to make four league starts between February and March 2008.

The 2007/08 season can still be a good one for Clement and the period after it was also something good for him as he felt then that he was playing better than ever and both physically and mentally he was at his best. But unfortunately, the following pre-season, he got an injury that at first he never expected to last for long.

“So to get this injury the following pre-season, especially on the eve of our return to the Premier League, was a devastating blow”, Clement said.

Clement might still be in shock knowing his playing days are over but he will survive the challenge. He is a wise man and he will definitely find a way to recovery may be not from the injury but from the emotional and mental disturbance. Let us just wish him all the best.
