Wenger Accused Referee Hansson of a Massive Mistake in Game Against FC Porto
The recent game between FC Porto and Arsenal might be one of this year’s games that football and sports betting fans won’t ever forget. Not only that it diminished Arsenal’s Champions League chances but also it created a huge controversy. FC Porto actually beaten Arsenal 2-1 and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger accused referee Martin Hansson of a massive mistake of giving FC Porto an indirect free-kick.
It was a bit surprising from the viewers then that Arsenal was beaten 2-1 and that Wenger became extremely angry to Hansson for giving FC Porto an indirect free-kick just actually after back-pass of Sol Campbell was picked up by Lukasz Fabianski.
“I believe it (the back-pass) was accidental, Sol touched it accidentally,” Wenger told ITV1.
The Arsenal manager also added that Hansson should have given them time to build the wall. However, when he was asked if Porto should have been permitted to act fast he indeed gave positive answer but should have not been in the box.
“Yes, in the middle of the field, but not in the box,” Wenger said. “We had no chance to defend.”
“I think it was a massive mistake, it was a double mistake,” the Arsenal manager added. “It was a penalty for us as well when (Tomas) Rosicky went down just before.”
On the other hand, Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas admitted that he might also have taken a quick free-kick as a player.
“Maybe as a player I would have done the same to try to score,” Fabregas said.
And he also conceded that the Gunners can be considered accountable too for what happened.
“When you concede these goals you cannot go anywhere, schoolboy goals, what can you do?” the Arsenal captain said. “Maybe we are still a little soft in that aspect, as a team when we concede we are not strong enough to lift ourselves, we were not strong enough to stand up and play well.”
