The World of Gambling and Betting

With the age of technology biting at our heels and the overwhelming options available to us through newly created platforms and programs, you will be happy to know that this advancement has not forgotten about the potentially lucrative field of betting.  Some of the new programs that have been generated are your run-of-the-mill applications that any amateur can run with and make a few bucks, and then there are others that go beyond the stretch of the imagination to bring a new challenge for those aficionados that are hunting for the big score.

One of the newest ways to gamble online is through your phone- anytime, anywhere.  This is proving to be a welcomed addition to the existing online options and there have been many new programs developed to suit just those needs.  Currently available in the UK, Hop-on has created Casino Wagering Software, which enables you to participate and interact with dealers to stream live interaction feed on your Android device. Hop-on is a manufacturer of hardware and software development and the company’s goal is to become “the largest massively multiplayer online (MMO) casino game through cell phones.”

Many countries are reacting differently to the growing trend of betting online and through mobile devices.  In the EU, where gambling is legal and regulated by the Gambling Commission, Parliament is working on an initiative to address the concern for online gambling risks to internet service providers and Russia invited representatives from governing bodies to discuss arising gambling issues.  Specific gaming is legal in the United States as well, with commercial casinos currently bringing in the highest percent of gross revenue.  The United States has yet to legalize online gambling, although President Obama has made strides towards changing the current UIEGA (Online Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) and is currently working on steps towards legalizing online gambling within the next three years.

There are other options out there to make money aside from fixed-odds gambling and Parimutuel betting, which are popular in the sports and horse racing arena and betting on your favorite sports team or player.  A new trend is arising concerning gambling on current and world events that have consumed and affected this millenniums’ society.  For those out there that might be wary of spending or losing actual money, Newsfutures and Casual Observer both offer the online community a way to wager with fictitious money. For the more adventurous gambling participant, InTrade and Iowa Electronic Markets offer real bets for participants.  Iowa Electronic Markets is an educational and research project operated by the University of Iowa College of Business faculty and InTrade is designed similar to the Stock Exchange in that you can buy and sell “shares” in the financial and professional market.

There is nothing quite like the thrill of being where the action is, however, and if you are the type of gambler that prefers working in on the ground, there will always be the faithful horse and sports bets to keep the adrenaline pumping in your veins.
