Short Secured First Signing
Yes, Notts County new manager Craig Short was able to secure his first signing. He was actually able to make goalkeeper Rob Burch sign a contract with The Magpies that would be good for two years.
The 26-year-old Burch got a new contract offering from the Imps however decided to turn it down and so was able to freely transfer to the Meadow Lane after the deal at Sincil Bank actually expired.
The new manager seemed pleased with him being successful in securing his first signing.
“I am delighted to have secured my first signing,” said Short. “I am looking to put together a squad that can challenge in League One.”
It was in 2002 when Burch actually became professional through Tottenham Hotspur. And for five years of stay with the team, the player became one of the most sought after.
Burch indeed had loan spells with Woking, Stevenage, West Ham, Bristol City and even Barnet, before actually deciding to join Sheffield Wednesday back in 2007.
The goalkeeper however, was released by the Owls after being a part of one season and three competitive matches. Then in July 2008, he signed for Lincoln.
Naturally, Burch had the reason or reasons for not accepting new contract offered by the Imps and just went for the contract offered by Notts County through new manager Short.
Well, some fans would have wanted Burch to just have accepted the one offered by the Imps but then these fans would just have to accept the decision of the goalkeeper of not going for it. It would always be the goalkeeper who decides for things like these. They just have to accept Burch’s decision and hope that it will bring forth positive result. These fans just have to be there for Burch and learn to accept decisions of the goalkeeper, may they be good or bad for them.
