Ruiz Opted to Stay With Phillies

According to a source, Ruiz finally signed the three-year contract worth $8.85 million on Sunday. However, it is believed that the deal was still pending a physical but included a fourth-year club option worth $5 million, performance incentives based on started games, and buyout worth $500,000.

For many, Phillie’s decision speaks of certain things like the one about some arbitration-eligible players that finally they decided to take care of without having to undergo any hearing.

While aside from Ruiz, there are two others who have also signed a new contract with the club. The right-handed reliever Chad Durbin also recently signed a contract however only a one-year contract. And center fielder Shane Victorino and righty-starter Joe Blanton also signed a contract however also a three-year contract just like of Ruiz’s.

In 2009, Ruiz batted .255 with 43 RBIs and set a career-high nine homers. His career has been running smoothly for four years and this is most likely because of Philadelphia.
