Royals’ Third Baseman is Likely to Rest for Weeks Due to Broken Right Thumb

Alex GordonThe Kansas City Royals will be without third baseman Alex Gordon in the next three to four weeks. Gordon now suffers from broken right thumb and just needs rest.

It was in the third Cactus League game of the Kansas City Royals against Texas Rangers that Gordon was harmed. The injury actually came in the second inning but then the third baseman still played five innings just as scheduled.

“When I hit the bag, I could feel it,” Gordon said. “I’ve dislocated a finger before and I kind of knew. I thought something was up.”

Gordon preferred to stay in the game though he felt injury. Naturally, he had his reason for doing so last Saturday.

“I didn’t want to be hurt,” Gordon said. “I didn’t want them to know the truth, I guess.”

But good thing, Royals spokesman Mike Swanson believed that the injury could only be a “minimally displaced fracture of the right thumb.” Gordon had his X-rays and they showed that the tip was fractured. However no surgery was believed to be necessary then, the thumb only needed to heal.

“I’ll maybe have to take a couple more weeks to get the timing back and everything,” Gordon said. “Hopefully it’ll still be there. It was 10 weeks last year so this is going to feel like a breeze, I guess.”

Most likely, Gordon will be out until the Opening Day on April 5. He will be out more or less for four weeks. Well he will not enjoy the entire resting period but then nothing much he can actually do about it. He will not be able to throw or bat if he will not take a leave from the field and get his thumb healed. He he has no other options but to just take a rest and work on his thumb to actually have it healed.
