Raikkonen To Take a Year Off From Racing in Formula One
Kimi Raikkonen failed to agree to a deal to race for McLaren, and so now is most likely to take a year off from racing in Formula One. But for being so fond of rallying, he is anticipated to push through with some other options in 2010.
The world champion racer left the Italian team Ferrari end of this season though under a contract that is still to run for a year. The reason is to actually to make way for Fernando Alonso.
The Finn can be remembered saying that he will only stay in sport, and particularly in Formula One, if he will be with a top team.
“The Formula One alternatives for next season were McLaren or nothing”, Steve Robertson explained. However, it was also that, “Kimi and McLaren could not reach an agreement, so he will not drive at F1 level – at least not next year”. Thus, it leaves the former Ferrari racer no choice.
From 2002 up to 2006, Raikkonen was with McLaren for five seasons. He was able to win nine Grand Prix and bagged runner-up titles in the drivers’ championship. In 2007, he decided to be a part of Ferrari. He did well being with the Italian team, but then at some point, way back then, he was overshadowed by Felipe Massa.
Raikkonen really planned to come back racing for McLaren this coming year. But then, may be the timing is not just right to. On the lighter side, he is still up for rallying, he will be good for sure. A year off from racing in Formula One will not be something that can harm him. In a way, it can even help him as he tries to find the place for him where he can really fight for his driving ambitions.
