Possible Prolonged Transfer Embargo at Fratton Park Urges Portsmouth Boss to Make Some Serious Moves
The possible prolonged transfer embargo that loomed at Fratton Park is now something serious for Portsmouth boss Avram Grant. Thus, at this point, he considers recalling striker David Nugent from his loan at Burnley.
The Barclays Premier League indeed imposed freeze on player-registration in connection to the club’s finances. But it will be lifted once the league feels happy with own financial standing.
And to mention that the players were not paid for three times this season. This indeed highlighted the crisis’s magnitude.
However, it still a priority for Portsmouth and of course for Grant to get the transfer embargo lifted as it is actually the reason why things seem like not that organized today. Nugent might be really recalled if case the options are limited for Portsmouth and the big man Grant.
“We are thinking about this”, Grant said. And the Portsmouth boss added, “In the next few days we will know. It depends on many things. But it could happen”.
While Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie holds unto his belief that the club to stay afloat may have to sell some players. He said, “if the way to keep this club alive is to sell a couple of players again, we will have to do that – but it will be an owner’s decision”.
To be able to sell some players, most especially the most valuable ones, Pompey will have to ask FIFA first if they can. Like if they like to sell the like of Kevin-Prince Boateng that has played for two teams this season as midfielder.
When will the transfer embargo be lifted? It is likely the question that has been playing on the mind of everyone in crisis. For their interest, naturally they would want that the answer would be soon. But they know they still wouldn’t know up to this very moment.
