Milicic Traded to Minnesota Timberwolves by New York Knicks
Surprising it may be but it is true, Darko Milicic was traded to Minnesota Timberwolves by New York Knicks. It actually happened on Wednesday.
In exchange for Milicic, Minnesota Timberwolves sent Brian Cardinal to New York Knicks. Milicic was indeed reported unhappy with New York Knicks and so the trading that took place is most likely just right now for everyone concerned. He would have been waived if no deal turned possible for him.
David Kahn, Minnesota’s president of basketball operations, said, “He understandably was frustrated and he may feel that way now. I’m hopeful he clears his mind of that for the next couple of months.”
New York Knicks earned some tax savings from the trading but more importantly opened spots for better trades.
Kahn admitted that the native of Montenegro could come back to Europe after this NBA season. But Minnesota’s head hopes Milicic will end up settling things right.
Kahn said, “I hope he will give it one more shot. Even if he ends up returning to Europe, I hope he wants to end his NBA career on a positive note. In our situation, he’ll play.”
Looking back, Detroit Pistons chose the 24-year-old player with the second overall pick in the draft of 2003. Milicic was just behind LeBron James and ahead of the likes of Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, and Carmelo Anthony.
While Milicic was obtained last year on a night draft however encountered problem with coach Mike D’Antoni. For New York Knicks, he has only played eight times this NBA season. Currently, he is only averaging 2.0 points. And to also mention, since November 13, he has not played.
It is not clear now what are Milicic’s exact plans as far as his NBA career is concerned. But he is now with Minnesota Timberwolves and hopefully he could clear his mind and think on a different level.
