Mahoto Now a Part of French Second Division Side Bastia

Gauthier MahotoDefensive midfielder Gauthier Mahoto after joining Portsmouth in its pursuit for some wins over the last two years is actually now a part of French second division side Bastia. He was sold by the club which, according to reports, has been in financial need.

Perhaps, Portsmouth ended up selling Mahoto to Bastia because of the need for funds. Well, for some this decision of the club may be reasonable. But of course, one may just think differently than the other. Some might have actually agreed, but some might have not.

From Le Havre two years ago, the 17-year-old joined Pompey. The ride with the club more or less has been good. But some things happened and certain changes must be made. Now, Mahoto is under a two-and-a-half year contract with the Corsican side.

The defensive midfielder can be remembered coming through the ever popular French Football Federation’s Clairefontaine academy. And he can be recalled only playing once for Pompey, being as a substitute in the 4-1 Carling Cup victory against Hereford.

It indeed came as a surprise for Mahoto fans, in a way they were not that prepared about their favorite’s departure from Portsmouth and then new contract which is with the French second division side Bastia. But naturally, they will have to deal with it.

May be it is meant to happen, may be the decision of Portsmouth to sell the defensive midfielder Mahoto will bring forth new opportunities for him most especially and this is a good thing.

Being with the French second division side Bastia might be profitable for Mahoto. He might be given better chances to prove himself, to prove what he has got as a defensive midfielder. But his fans will never know if he will, it will take some time before they do so.
