Lindstrom Moved From Marlins to Astros
It is confirmed, hard-throwing reliever Matt Lindstrom moved from Florida Marlins to Houston Astros. He is expected to fill a late-inning hole in Astros’ bullpen with his great skills.
Houston Astros really needed a reliever after two of their players decided to finally go for free agency. They are closer Jose Valverde and set up man LaTroy Hawkins, with the latter opting to a Milwaukee contract.
The 29-year-old reliever has been one of most dependable relievers of the Florida Marlins. He spent three seasons with the club and was in their 54 games so far for this year, racking up 13 of 15 saves with an ERA of 5.89. As the closer of the club, he started the season but then went through elbow soreness and therefore passed on his job to Leo Nunez.
“I don’t even think excited is the right word to use”, Lindstrom said in connection to being with Houston Astros. And he added, “I’m just looking forward to the opportunity to help the Houston Astros organization move forward. I followed the organization for a long time and look forward to contributing”.
While Houston Astros’ general manager Ed Wade said, “right now [Lindstrom] is the most experienced closer we have on the staff and that could be the case Opening Day, and if it is, we’re fine with that”, and that, “he’s got an outstanding arm and throws up to 100 mph. He had some issues last year where [the Marlins] took a conservative approach, had some elbow issues that were resolved”.
Houston Astros, in exchange for Lindstrom, sent Minor Leaguers Robert Bono who is a pitcher and Luis Bryan who is an infielder to Florida Marlins. Three players were actually sent in exchange, the one will still be named to the club.
