James Simmons Trying to Catch up On Things
It actually seems that James Simmons is trying to catch up on things most especially just now after Stephen Strasburg made his Arizona Fall League debut. Saturday, as the Phoenix Desert Dogs given the Surprise Rafter their first loss, he significantly tossed three shutout innings.
Simmons started his second AFL stint by giving way to two walks and two singles and in the process striking out three. In relation to this, the Athletics prospect said the last time, “I hadn’t thrown to hitters in a real game since the end of August. Being back on the mound, it felt great” and additionally, “I had some success today, so it’s definitely a confidence-booster”.
Simmons seems to be in good shape now after being on the list of disabled for three long weeks. He suffered from a strained right deltoid muscle. But he is now back in the AFL and will again prove why he does have good reputation. He was selected by Oakland with the 26th overall pick in the 2006 Draft and went 7-7 with a 5.72 ERA at Triple-A Sacramento in 23 games. And in 2007, pitched in the Rising Stars Showcase.
For the record, Simmons might have missed three or four starts. He, himself, believed that he didn’t get the innings that the organization expected from him. He said, “I’d strung together quite a few good starts. The last thing you want to do is get injured when you’re throwing well. I knew we had a shot at the playoffs, so it was hard for me to go through that”.
However, what’s important now is, Simmons was able to be back in good shape and he was able to return in a way he is anticipated to. Now he is trying to catch up on things. He seems to be exerting more effort than usual.
