Ilgauskas Up For the Game Against Phoenix
Zydrunas Ilgauskas was not successful on his first try at history. But then, got another chance, according to Cavaliers coach Mike Brown.
Brown assured everyone, it will happen, Ilgauskas on Wednesday’s game at home against Phoenix, will become Cleveland’s all-time leader in games played. He will break the record that currently allows him to share joy with Cleveland general manager Danny Ferry. It is indeed a record of 723 games.
Ilgauskas never got off the bench last Saturday, when he was anticipated to break the said record. It really upset even LeBron James who actually criticized Brown on Monday.
James said, “I definitely thought he should’ve played”, and that, “As a friend of his, I was very upset and I know he was, also”.
While Brown also has explanations. He explained that he wanted the smaller and quicker lineup then, that was indeed playing well against the Mavericks. And if ever the same chance take place once again, he will let Ilgauskas be on the court against Dallas. Like James, he won’t also start Ilgauskas against the Suns.
“I’ll be just as happy as anybody when the record is accomplished”, Brown said. He also wants the best thing to happen.
Ilgauskas has been saying no to interview requests, while Brown stopped short of saying sorry for keeping the player away from the record. But then the two are expected to finally find the time to sit down and talk face to face, considering Brown said he would speak to Ilgauskas.
For the record, Ilgauskas has spent his 14-year career in Cleveland. Early on, he suffered from foot problems that pushed him to be out of the basketball court scenes for three full seasons.
Ilgauskas is one of James’ favorite players from the Cavaliers. James was a big part of the approval of the five-year contract extension of Ilgauskas in 2005. The player, who is currently in the final year of the contract, has indicated very possible resignation after the season.
