Hawpe Only Busy With Batting Practice

Brad HawpeBecause of a left quadriceps strain, Rockies right fielder Brad Hawpe is now on the 15-day disabled list and is only busy with batting practice. He can’t play but then he has this chance to improve his .357 batting average.

Well, a .357 batting average is already good but it can be improved of course. And the right fielder is just taking advantage of the said chance.

Hawpe would have wanted to be in the field for a play instead of being on the sidelines, on the 15-day disabled list, but then he agreed for sure when boss of Rockies opted to give him rest which he eventually used to do batting practice.

“I can do batting practice,” Hawpe said. “I can run around. I just can’t run more than 80 percent. If in this sport it were OK where you could try to run at 80 percent, I’d be fine. You can do that in BP, but you can’t do that in a baseball game.”

Hawpe must have just realized that it could be considered as a blessing.

“I was swinging the bat well because I was up there being relaxed and patient,” Hawpe said, “not trying to do anything but put the barrel of the bat on the ball.”

Hawpe can make fine swings but he can make even far better swings. Good thing now he has the chance to practice. We might just be all surprised when he returns in the field and shows us excellent swings.

He seems making the most out of the chance now so we better just expect some perfect swings from him when he returns. Such swings must not become a surprise for us eventually. Rockies right fielder seems wise enough to do what he should do with the great chance for the sake of his swings.
