Federer vs. Roddick Wimbledon Face Off

Andy Roddick, one of America’s top tennis players for years, looks to have reached the pinnacle of his sport, pushing past some of the toughest, higher seeded opponents and finally, in 2005, won his first Wimbeldon. It is simply too much of a pity that the player sitting at the top is Roger Federer, who has been predicted to win. Roger Federer has been the world’s top ranking tennis player for years, and he’s definitely the one favored to win.

Federer’s ranking over Roddick, according to online casinos, gives him a 9/1 favoring over the Austin, TX tennis star. Although both are excellent players, it doesn’t take much to understand this.

Federer’s history against Roddick includes an individual 18-2 advantage in any match played. From 2003 to 2005, he has been able to knock Andy Roddick out of the running entirely, from the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2003, to the 2004 as well as 2005 Wimbledon finals. They have been grappling with each other for the seed position number one for years, and Federer has always come out on top.

Ever since then, Roddick has had a number of problems in his career, from injuries, to regime changes with his coaches and commitment issues as well as publicity fodder. During all of this, Federer has had no issues to speak of, and has moved on to achieving victory of 14 Grand Slam titles in tennis. There are some that even argue that Federer is the greatest tennis player, not only of our time, but of all time. It’s quite a long journey for Roddick to ever make it that far, but he’s trying.

At this point, Federer is now trying to capture his 15th Grand Slam, and with the injury of his long time rival and tormenter, Rafael Nadal, he may succeed without even breaking a metaphorical sweat. There is little for him to worry about this championship, it seems, but Roddick won’t sit still for his career to disappear under the almighty sun of Federer’s. He’s trying again, and he’s trying harder than we’ve seen of him for a long time. Perhaps he will beat the odds and defeat the world’s greatest tennis player.

Darren Cahill, ESPN’s tennis analyst, said that Andy is not the lone player against Roger that has problems with matchup.  It seems that everyone does except Nadal.  Andy needs to remain the course and he has to continue thinking that he is player better.

It won’t take long for this showdown to come to place. On Sunday, July 19th, we will finally be able to witness a Federer vs. Roddick face-off, one that many feel is a long time in coming. And although there are many that doubt Roddick’s chance of success, there is still one simple fact remaining: Roddick is the only man that has a chance of defeating Federer, the world’s number one seed, at Wimbledon this year. Will this Sunday finish with an upset? Or will Federer wipe the pavement with the blood and tears of one Andy Roddick? We will see.
