Birmingham City’s Chances for First-Team Place Might Lessen Due to Carsley’s Absence
Down the road, Birmingham City’s chances for first-team place might lessen because of the absence of the veteran midfielder of the club, Lee Carsley. He is expected not to be available for any play until March after he got an ankle injury in their game against Nottingham Forest.
The star player of Birmingham City went out of the FA Cup third round meeting with the Championship club on January 2.
The ankle injury of Carsley appears not that serious and so most likely will not require any surgery however the Blues boss Alex McLeish is not expecting to have the 34-year-old midfielder back for the club’s contention for first-team place. Carsley will not be able to participate in any game for around six weeks. Still, it is a trouble for the club.
“You are probably looking at Lee being out for six weeks,” McLeish said.
And in addition the Blues boss said, “he has not had an operation, he is just getting daily treatment. His ankle is in a boot, is stabilized and that is going to help him more. But he doesn’t need any surgery.”
While in relation to Carsley’s absence, McLeish indeed considers getting new signing Michel into the fray.
Earlier in the week, the Spaniard arrived at St Andrew’s from Sporting Gijon and now foreseen to enter the scene in case the likes of Barry Ferguson and Lee Bowyer suffer from injuries or get suspensions.
“If anything should happen to my midfielders then I want him right to come in and he has got to adjust quickly,” McLeish said. And that, in addition, “he can’t be of a mindset that he is just breaking himself in for next season. He has got to be here saying ‘I want to challenge Ferguson and Bowyer.’”
