Beltran’s Return Not Ruled Out by Manuel

Carlos BeltranYes, return of Carlos Beltran was not even ruled out by manager Jerry Manuel before the Mets actually hosted the Tigers. Beltran, after not making it to the first 71 games of the Mets’ season because of the surgery done on his right knee in January, can actually just come back if asked to. Thus, his return not being ruled out by Manuel most likely mattered to him.

However, Manuel still has to see how Beltran performs in the coming games.

“I’m anxious to see how he responds tomorrow; that will be key,” said Manuel. “If he plays well in these first couple games, he’s going to be making phone calls to get up here.”

Well, the Mets got 20 days to actually recall Beltran once his rehab assignment begins.

“I think he’d push for it,” Manuel said. “He would really have to be doing extremely well for that to happen. A lot of things would have to go right for him. It would be a tough sell for him to make that trip.”

But then it will seem just unlikely, indeed according to news reports, before Monday Beltran will only play three or four rehab games. And also that Hiram Bithorn Stadium still has an artificial turf field which can be just unhelpful and good to a center fielder returning with a repaired knee.

General manager Omar Minaya was interviewed and actually said that the Mets still doesn’t have a timeframe as far as Beltran is concerned.

“We’ve got to see how he looks and how he feels,” Minaya said.

Well, of course we hope for the best for Beltran. We hope that finally the player is able to return. For sure he has been into the idea of returning after missing a lot of games of the Mets’ season.
