Angels Acquired Callaspo
Angels seemed to have made a quick decision to actually acquire Alberto Callaspo in exchange for pitchers Sean O’Sullivan and Will Smith. The reigning division champion was reported to have planned about boosting own offense and just one possible way to that the champion has figured out was to have a trade arrangement with the Royals.
Callaspo was acquired by the Angles with a career-high 11 homers and 73 RBIs. Also not to forget to mention that we has acquired with eight homers and 43 RBIs for the season.
In 2001, Callaspo signed with the Angels as a teen in Maracay, Venezuela then for pitcher Jason Bulger was traded to Arizona. And for Billy Buckner, he was acquired by the Royals.
Angels manager Mike Scioscia believed that acquiring Callaspo can just be helpful. Callaspo will be a boost according to the manager.
Scioscia said: “He’ll be a boost. He can definitely play third base every day. We’ll see how some of the pieces fit. The work he does in the batter’s box is special. He can hit. He’ll help fill the void Kendry Morales’ departure created.”
But then Scioscia also conceded that the general manager also found it hard to make such decision. It was not an easy decision to make for the general manager in particular, the manager admitted.
Scioscia said: “This was not by any means an easy decision on Tony’s part. It’s not easy to put Sean O’Sullivan or Will Smith in a deal unless we were getting a player who can help us.”
Well, we still have to see if acquiring Callaspo in replacement of the pitchers will bring forth good result. We still have to see if eventually it will really boost offense of the Angels. It will just take some time for us to see.
