Abbott to Stay With the Cumbrians Until 2011
Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott has agreed to extend his contract, and so now it is confirmed that he will be staying with the Cumbrians until 2011. He actually joined the club in the summer of 2006 as assistant manager and just later became the caretaker manager when Neil McDonald left.
For 13 months, Abbott served as an assistant of John Ward. But when Ward departed in November 2008, he became his successor. Abbott since then, has been performing well and has been achieving a lot. Thus now, it is not surprising if his contract was extended until 2011. Surely, he will continue to perform well and achieve more if only he will stay with the club for more months.
Director John Nixon admitted that the two parties agreed to extend the contract. According to him, “We have agreed the contract extension in principle and it is just now a case of finalizing the signatures and completing formalities.”
While the 46-year-old Abbott believes it is indeed a good thing that his contract was extended.
Abbott said, “This is a tough job but it is an excellent football club and I thoroughly enjoy working here. Many of the things that we have set in place have been with the future in mind, and I am looking forward to continuing that work on into the 2010/11 season.”
Abbott anticipates that the extension will bring forth more accomplishments considering the things he is currently up to.
Summing up everything he said, “We feel that we are making real progress and it is a job that I want to complete. There is still a long way to go, but I have a fantastic relationship with the board and we want to continue to improve things and take the club as far as we can.”
